Thank you. I checked Z1 Enterprises out and placed an order today to get started on my instruments and new wiring harnesses.


An alternative route for gauges is to buy them used on ebay and send them to Z-Resto for rebuild. He does a great job, and you'll know that you have originals rather than replicas.

Thanks for the tip about gauge restoration. I went on the Z Resto website to have a look. Nice work.
I will plan to get in touch with them to see if the gauges it came with are candidates.
This bike had been outside quite a while and was last licensed in 2006. So there is quite a bit of work to go through everything but I am in no rush. Cheers.

Hi Dave,
May we suggest that you create a thread in the Bike Restoration subforum? That would make it easy for you to post (and us to monitor) the progress.

May we also suggest that you take lots of detailed pics before and during disassembly? Speaking from our experience, they are invaluable during reassembly when, months later, we cant remember exactly how things were arranged. Downloading a shop manual and parts manual from the service documents here will be helpful.

Speaking strictly for ourselves (me & The Lovely Z1BEBE), when disassembling a reasonably complete bike such as you seem to have here, we've found it easiest to remove a part or set of common parts (such as turn signals), clean/refurb it or them, then put them away in labeled boxes while the next tasks are addressed. Same with hardware, such as screws and bolts, some of which are one of a kind and only used in certain locations. Bolt and screw lengths are listed in the parts manual. When the time comes to begin reassembly, we then have all the parts and sub-assemblies organized and clean, ready to reinstall without drama. This is where we've found pics helpful. Different people have different methods. This is what we've found works best for us when starting with an assembled bike.

The forum is looking forward to seeing (and possibly advising on) the resto.
